The weather was exceptionally good the day I visited this historic
Church, so the strong sunlight has picked out perfectly both the detail
of the carving around the doorway, and the gorgeous red of the stonework.
It is well worth visiting this Church. It is not too far out, just a
few miles south of Hereford on the Abergavenny road, and you could easily
spend a complete afternoon viewing all that this building has to offer.
Just for tasters, it has an original semi-circular apse, one of a very
few still in existence. You will also find a huge solid stone font,
Norman carved corbels almost 90 in number and all different, and a graveyard
that used to be an old Saxon village. The interior of the church is
also full of carved stonework. Guide booklets are available to purchase
inside, the money helping towards repairs that are constantly needed.
Much like every other church in the land, I guess. (Editor)
PS. The advantage of the web-site is that you see the pictures in
colour. The printed version is by necessity black and white.
